  1. Hey Brooke. First off I wanted to say that I found a lot of your pictures to be of great quality. However the photo that got my intention the most was #9 one of the self-portraits. Right away I thought to myself "This looks like something you would see on the cover of a book/movie."

In terms of the photo itself visually, the light coming through really got my attention streaming through over your shoulders. It looks like something is approaching in the distance, and your looking away as if you know what's coming.

The framing and composition are two things that I really enjoyed about the picture. Along with this is certainly the sense of mystery, like I said seems like a foreign object approaching and makes me curious as to what it is. I found myself asking a lot of questions which was what we were supposed to go for, so good job. There is a good mixture of dark and light, the technical matter or the photo just seems right to me. I really like this because its a very different style of a photo of yourself, I really enjoyed that.

  3. Hello Brooke!

Before I comment on the photos that I connect to the most, I must say you've got a great eye and your framing and composition are very abstract in many of the photographs. Although, I must say some are more "mysterious than others" the quality as a whole is great.

Number 14, is definitely a favorite of mine. The diagonal framing combined with the lines positioned in the frame at various angles and degrees provide a sense of confusion. The shadows from the window along the staircase helps to separate the highlights and casts a pattern along the stairs and the subject walking up them. It was what initially caught my attention.

Number 2 is also a favorite of mine. I just love the texture and how you were able to capture the natural lights and darks of the stump.

    Really great compositions.

  4. Brooke- I really enjoy all of your photos. Number 11 is my personal favorite. Where in the world did you find this antique baby highchair? Its great, very mysterious and goes great with the black/white contrast. This picture leaves me wondering why?

  5. woah, what a fantastic set you have here. Great work. My vote goes with 7. im a sucker for reflection and simple subject shots so thats why. The wetness of the wood, along with the black and white composition make for an excellent shot. Some other notable favorites of mine are 9 and 14. Thinking about the man in the shot sort of conveyed the mystery for me. Where was he going, whats his name? So good job all around!

  6. Hi Brooke! Your photos were great. I really loved number 11 because it really caught my eye. I almost looks as though the area my be in a backyard that his begun to become overgrown. To me I see an old chair that has an attachment to make it almost like a kids high chair. Framing this image makes me think about how it might have been used and loved by a family. The lighting in number 9 is awesome, shining on the outline of the person really makes you wonder where they are and even who they are. Good job on all your photos and I look forward to seeing more.

  7. I think your photo #1 works really well with the lower contrast and the haziness in the sky. It makes everything look really foggy and a little surreal. I like that the sky and the ground kind of blend together. My favorite of yours is #9. The outline that the light gives around the head and the body is really great to look at especially with the actual source of light peeking out. It makes me wonder where that person was standing because there really isn’t any indication from the dark foreground.

  8. Hi Brooke,

These photos were awesome in my opinion. Number 9 is really cool. I can't believe that that photo was taken with a smartphone. The way the light is hitting the subject and making the subject silhouetted is just spectacular. You seem to have a handle on what the professor was looking for in this assignment. My favorite photo would have to be #5. If that is a glass of water, which I think it is, that is such a cool way to photograph water. At first I thought it was maybe a dish that scientists use in labs to look at microscopic specimens. I know that was a crazy thought, but that's why I looked at the photo longer. It made me think and actually look at what it is that I am seeing.

    Good job!

  9. Hey Brooke!

First off, pretty much all of your photos caught my attention because of their creativity! You have a great eye for photography. I like the simplicity of your photos, because I believe simple is beautiful.

As far as this assignment goes, I think #9 is your best mysterious photo. I can feel the mystery in the photograph because of the subjects pose. The subject being in the middle works well (usually I enjoy when the subject is a little off center) but I think this works great! The contrast of b&w really make the silhouette pop. Especially with the little beam of light shining through on the left side.

    I also really love 1, 2, 4 & 11! Goodjob.

  11. My favorite pic is your self portrait, #9. The light behind you creates an amazing outline and makes for a really cool picture. All of your photos have nice line work. I am a fan of the modern, sleek look and that's expressed nicely in a lot of your pics.

  13. Brooke,

Your approach to the topic was spot on. All of the photos were mysterious. The way you framed the photos draws the eye to different aspects of the photographs. You can tell that each photo had some thought behind it.

My favorite photo would have to be #9. I can almost hear the lights turning on and the feel the heat emulating from them. This photo allows the viewer to be engulfed in the scenario even though there are so many things left unsaid.

    Awesome job.
