  1. Hi! Long time no see! So, I admire your variation of subject matter and capture of detail. I vote #10 as your strongest. First it reminded me of a music concert and as the viewer I was in the crowd...then it felt like I was a worm looking up at a spaceship that just landed from outer space. Whatever it is- great success. (Thumbs up).

  2. Photo 3 is the picture that got my attention most. It reminds me of sitting on the dock of my lake house all day so I immediately had a connection and it brought back fond memories. The picture presents plenty of mystery for me. It triggered an old idea that the world was flat as this picture appears to just drop off. The shadow cast by the canoe brings out a lot of great color contrast in the water, and also in the sky. The material you chose to shoot was very interesting and I enjoyed it.

  3. Hello Chelsea!

I admire your excellent point of views. You've got an excellent eye. Number 10 is definitely a strong photograph. Framing, Contrast, Focus. The stage (?) being completely blown out makes you think about what is actually happening, who is on stage.

Number 3 is also a very strong photo. The way the background gradients up from a soft grey to a white is excellent. I also love the subtle DOP, how the focus softly changes as your eyes follow the canoe and dock up to the top of the photograph. The reflection of the canoe being the darkest element of the photograph adds depth to an otherwise less contrasting composition.

  4. Chelsea- Photo 3 is my favorite photo. I like that I have no idea what it is. Part of it looks like a kiwi though. I like that there is so much focus on the object, good idea using a white background. The contrast of the objects shine is also what caught my eye. Nice work!

  5. Hi Chelsea! All of your photos are great. They all have great composition, contrast in shades, and framing. However, number 3 is definitely my favorite. The super still water give it such a creepy feel. It looks like a scene in a scary movie. It portrays that mystery theme perfectly! Awesome job!!

  6. Hello Chelsea! The photo in your collection that speaks to me is #7. It gives me this sense of being in a daydream or a flashback. It’s a beautiful shot and could have looked like a postcard but the B&W does something different with the environment that gives it a mysteriousness.

I actually enjoy the symmetry of the composition. It was a great idea to get the branches falling down into the frame instead of standing out further and just getting the sky. I like how the light filters through the leaves and creates a repetitive shade.

The shades of black and white throughout the photo add to the mystery of the artist standing in the shaded area under the tree and contemplating crossing the beautiful lighted path to a very dark wooded area. When I see this photograph I think, “Too good to be true.” This resonates in the beautiful imagery but also in the misleading path to darkness.

Overall, I am glad you decided to do this view in B&W because color may have made it look too picturesque and less imaginative and mysterious. Love it!

  8. Hi Chelsea!

I like that most of your shots are of nature and outside events. It shows us other parts of your life aside from the inside of your apartment. You did a great job with the framing and composition of your photographs. The only thing is that I would recommend concentrating on trying to add a little mystery to your photos. In all, but one of your photos, I could immediately tell what it was that I was looking at. Other than that, great job!

My favorite photo is #9. I couldn't quite figure out what I was looking at and I liked that a lot.

  9. Hey Chelsea! (I think we've had a few ad classes together, so hi!)

You have some really great photos here. One of my favorites is #7. The contrast of the b&w is really sharp and I like that. The shadows in the photo are really engaging and move the eye around the picture quickly.

The subject of this photo seems to be the walkway and whatever is leads to (mysterious). I like how you have to look closely to noticed the horse on the left side of the picture. This creates some great composition.

The walkway brings me to a happy mystery. Even though the end of the path is dark and you're not sure what's there, you still want to walk down the path and find out. Since the b&w is bright and contrast is high it brings me to a Summer day.

  10. Chelsea -

Picture number three is my favorite. The mist over the water reminds me of early mornings at crew practice. The stillness of the water is really beautiful and the lighting and the angle is also really nice. Great work!

  12. Chelsea,

I think you have a great set of photos here. You have a very simple approach to photos and that's wonderful. Your photos do not distract from themselves. They are not boring though, you can stare at one aspect for a good while.

My favorite would have to be #3. It is almost as if it is inviting you into a voyage into the unknown.
