  1. Debora, I vote #7 for your POW. This photo just reminds me of good times. I think that many people can look at this photo and remember a birthday or some sort of celebration. This has a huge effect on the reaction it receives from viewers. It is comforting and your ability to capture the textures of the cake and the frosting really adds to the appeal. The addition of the knife makes it feel like we are in the middle of the celebration. I think that the feeling that this picture provokes distinguishes this photo from being as much of a cliché as food is. However, I would stray from taking photos of food, but this one does the trick.

  2. Definitely a variety here. I vote #2 as your POW for the fact that it's the most interesting as far as textures go. I think #1 looks a little over processed but definitely a cool shot. I also think you could have done something more with #9 because theres a lot of good color and a lot of room to work with. Maybe try and experiment more with the self portraits?

I want to compliment the use of such ordinary objects to create color/passion in your photo. Number 2 is something that someone might just walk past on the street but instead you took it and made it a really cool photo! You also do this with number 7 !

Photo 5, you chose a good angle for this photo. The bow tie is full of color and I enjoy how you have the actual action in this photo. That the viewer can see what the hands are doing.

My POW is number 2 for the creativity.

  4. Hi Debora,
Number one and number nine have similar quality and form. I feel like dolls live there, like there is an urban doll neighborhood and a rural doll town/farm. The doll-like quality may be the soft warm glow these photos have. I like it. Number five is interesting because it is a small snip-it of an interaction. I might like it more with a little less saturation, but I want to steal the content idea! I am usually biased against foodporn, but this cake takes the cake for food photos. The icing is dynamic in texture and tone enough to make it an interesting shot! (Also, yellow cake is my favorite) Your self portraits could be pushed a little further, but I love the placement of the two and the decision for one to be in color and the other black and white. Fascinating idea and very inspiring! I vote number 10 as the POW, but can you push the shadows and contrast some? I love the hand position.

  5. Nice job with 8! I'm not sure if you used a filter or if it was just the time of day, but it almost looks black and white, so nice shot and im going to select it as my vote for your POW. I also like three because of the simplicity and how it just has strictly two very different colors. The splatter adds a nice effect too. Nice work all around.

  6. Debora-
I really enjoyed your self-portraits. It was cool to scroll down and see the top of your face, then scroll more and see the bottom in a completely different photo. Very awesome arrangement.
I'm going to have to say #1 was my favorite. A good variations of colors, and it almost looked like an illustration. I would love to know how you achieved that look. I also liked it because it felt like home. A neighborhood with so much going on, even without people. It's comforting. Good job!

  7. 7 has my vote for POW. I'm not totally sure why but id imagine that whenever we see cake we typically associate that with good things, weddings, birthdays, etc. The detail in the crumbling pieces of cake and the definition in the icing add a cool effect that got my attention. I'm not sure if it was done intentionally but with 13 and 14 on top of one another it adds a very cool contrast. Maybe a little less saturation in some photos but i know i did the same with some of mine. Overall i really enjoyed your pictures in this set.

  8. Wow! You sold me with your first photo, which happens to be my POW for you. I love the way you utilized filters in order to change the entire impact of the photo. It almost looks like a drawing of the location that it was taken at rather than a picture of it. I also liked your self-portraits because they seem to say a lot about you by not including your whole face. You did a great job!

  9. I like your photo set for this critique. #1 is really cool- I don't know if it was the filter, the contrast of colors or what but it gave me a cartoon feel that just worked. All of your photos used colors in such a contrasting way such as # 3, the red hair played well against the blue sky. My favorite photo is #4: simply because for me, this has been the first photo I have seen that captured passion! Each of their faces shows they are really into the music they're playing. I think it's such a hard task to capture a feeling but you did so here. Good job!

  10. Photo 1 is my POW. I love the color in this picture and your use of filters to make the city feel peaceful. I also really enjoy photo 7 of the cake. I love the contrast of darkness against the yellow cake. Also, I really enjoyed the simplicity of your pictures. Great job!

  11. Debora-
Photo #2 is definitely my POW. The ariel view of the photo is really interesting and creates a nice angle and framing. Since the paint is splattered I can physically see the passion that was poured or splattered onto the street. The turqouise and dark green agasint the pavement are nice.

#7 was also one of my favorites. The yellow cake and white icing work well together, and of course, cake is passionate.
