  1. There is some intriguing subject matter here, like in number two- is that a dragonfly cutout? I would move to some more populated areas to capture some live subjects. I vote number five as your strongest. I'm really attracted to the simplicity and grayscale fade with in the stones.

  2. 1 is my personal favorite. It reminds me of something that we would see in scary movie which makes me think suspense/mystery. The different shades in the sky is good, and the reflection in the window also got my attention. I do agree with Emily that it would be to your benefit to shoot some photos in a more populated area. Overall, I enjoyed the photos you posted.

  3. Hi Jordan! I really enjoyed your photos.
Number 1 definitely sparked my interest. It is a perfect example of a landscape-type mystery photo. It also reminds me of something I'd see in a scary movie. Your photo has the right composition and contrast. You included enough space-scale of the subjects in the frame, as well as keeping the photo mysteriously dark, but not too much to black out the details and different shades of grey. Your photo makes me want to go and explore the abandoned area and check out what kind of story it has. Great job!

  4. Hello Jordan! I really enjoy a lot of your photographs, it took me some time to decide which one I was going to vote for. I have decided that it is going to be #9. When I first looked at this photo I was drawn in by the repetitive patterns of the benches and how they move further back in space.

I find perspective to be very captivating when it is seen in a drawing or a photo. I think that this is partly due to the fact that during everyday life, we don’t stop in our tracks and take notice to it. For example, if I was walking along the sidewalk in photo #9 it is likely that I wouldn’t be thinking about how the sidewalk appear to get more narrow the further away from my eyes it is. My point being, that this photo forces us to look at perspective – notice how the benches appear shorter as they move further away, the side walk squares get smaller, the little bricks and the shrubbery.

This photo gives us a viewpoint seen in everyday life but captures a moment and gives us a new perspective. I applaud the way you took the photo off-center with the camera focused more towards the benches than the sidewalk. It shows perspective but by focusing on the benches it gets us thinking about other things (“Where is everyone, all these benches and no one is sitting?”).

I think the technique is very well done. I see patterns, perspective, and textures. Very nice!

  5. hey jordan, nice set you have here! My personal favorite is number 10. i like how old, dirty and broken the photo is. Really artsy and mysterious. I think you did a great job cropping it as well. You made it nice and tight, but also left some surroundings for us to ponder and appreciate.Well done.

  6. Hey Jordan! You have an interesting mix of subject matter. My favorites are #5-8 (as a lover of all things zen). I'm most drawn to the textures in the stones in 5 & 6 but I think my favorite here is #6. I like that it's a little off-center and the angle you used to approach your object. I'd recommend playing around with brightness and contrast levels for future reference to make sure you don't lose content because a picture is too bright (and upping the contrast would really add more intrigue to #1-3). I agree with Brooke though- you highlight different textures really well.

  7. My favorite photo of yours is #1. I like the angle at which you took the photo and think that the structure is interesting to look at in itself. The angle just makes it more interesting. The softness of the sky contrasted with the darkness around the barn makes me want to go close to it and explore it. I also like the motion in the water for #7. I think maybe another angle would make this picture even more interesting.

  8. Hi Jordan! I like your photos. The unique outdoors content that you've captured is so very different from anything I would find in my own neighborhood. My favorite is number 7. Even though it is clearly a waterfall, it doesn't get lost in the contrasting rocks around it when shown in black and white. Although it is centered, my attention traveled to the bottom right portion where the colors are more mixed up rather than clearly dark vs light in other areas. Going forward, like most of us, I would say work on your main star of the photo being other than centered. Play around with capture different lighting a little more. But great photos!

  9. Hi Jordan~
I like how most of your photos are taken outdoors, because there is so much mystery out there! One of my favorites is photo #3.

The rock being emerged from the pond/lake is really neat. You don't see that all too often so I found that component interesting. The tower of rocks ontop of the big rock creates the mystery for me. Bringing me to questions like; who walked through the water to put those rocks there? Why did they decide to only place 4 rocks ontop of another? Is there a reason the rocks are there?

The composition of the photo is good, but I think next time you take a picture like this crouch down and try to get a different angle. I think pictures are always more interesting when taken at a level other than eye level. Just a thought :) Overall, your photos were great!

  10. Jordan -

I love that your photos are centered around nature. My favorite of yours is number three because of the light and the way it is reflecting off of the sign. I also love the picture of the waterfall due to the reflection of light and the movement of the water.

  11. overall, you have a good selection of outdoor shots. maybe next time expand on whats being photographed. the final selection of photos is solid and cohesive. the only thing i would say would be to up the contrast on some of the photos to give it some more character. try playing around with the white balance on some of these to make for a more interesting piece. i enjoy number 6's composition the most.

  12. Jordan I really like your pictures, your subject matter is very intriguing. I enjoyed the way you used light and shadows in your photos. I really enjoyed number 10 I thought that the subject matter was great. It really made me wonder where the window frame was on. Was is a basement window or maybe an old barn? It looks like it has lived through a lot and is cool to think about the story behind it. I'm looking forward to more from you.

  13. Jordan,

I think you do a great job of capturing the lighting in all of these photos. I like the rural environment of the photos. It's very different from what I'm used to. I like that you experiment with different angles, framing and the focus on certain textures.

My favorite photo would have to be number 10. I like the texture of it but I do wish that you took the photo straight forwards instead of with an angle. I think the symmetry contrasting with the decay of the window would have been an interesting take.
