I am fascinated by the dark and warped style in the photos. There is a lot of beautiful abstraction happening here, but I wonder what some would look like if you pushed the shadows to a deeper black. I love the fan in number 8, but number 11 is perfect. It's what I imagine the movie "The Ring" would look like if Audrey Hepburn were casted.
Lauralea I really enjoyed photo 5. Maybe it was that I had a similar photo before cutting down to the final pictures. It brings out an edgy feel that I love about Philly (assuming that's where the photo was taken.) The brick has an interesting contrast to it that got my attention as well. The color in the clouds as apposed to the rest of the sky is appealing. I also really like the angle you took when approaching this photo. Almost parallel with the fence creates a different approach then a typical head on picture. Well done
Lauralea,I LOVE your pictures. I found myself using them as references for when I was shooting this week. I love the mystery behind all of them. My favorite is #6 it is almost an optical illusion. Every time I look at it I seem to see something else. Great Job.
Laurlea. Great pics! I found myself most intrigued with photo number 3, I love the hand on the bench (very simple, yet mysterious). I agree with Emily that number 11 is awesome! I instantly thought of the ring when I saw this photo.
I really enjoyed looking at your photos. I love how the majority of your pictures were taken outside. Photo #6 caught my attention because it was a different angle of something we usually see from eye level facing it. Not from above it, looking down. I'm still not completely sure what it is, but it was very interesting in my opinion. Photo #12 intrigued me because I think it is your shadow, but that just looks like the coolest shadow I've ever seen. The way the shadow also allows for the ground to be in the photo is very awesome.
Photo #8 is my favorite. I think the way that you were able to focus of the stationary dreamcatcher with the spinning fan in the background is really skilled. I like how the two objects compliment one another in the photograph.
Lauralea, your photos are great! I had such a difficult time choosing because they are all just so good. I am torn between so many, some of my top favorites being #’s 3, 5, 6 and 12. I am having a difficult time narrowing it down – which I think says you are doing something right!
Where to start… I feel like I can say good things about all of them but I am going to go with #5. First, let me say that you do an excellent job with contrast and texture. I can tell that you think a lot about how you are going to go about shooting and what subjects will be best fit. I can
What strikes me about #5 is the softness of the sky and the sharpness of the barbed wire. Then again with the haphazard of the tree’s leaves and branches compared to the structured and organization of the fence. It’s like a tug-a-war and it keeps my attention.
The photo brings a sense of mystery through the angle as well as the subject matter. I feel as though I am looking for a way out, up and over this fence – out of the sharp and structured world and into the soft and chaotic world. Lots of symbolism and great photos keep up the good work.
These are gorgeous! You did a really great job keeping these photos mysterious. I had trouble picking one but I'm going to vote for #3. It leaves me wondering whose hand it is. The different textures between the worn wooden bench and stone also works really nicely. This photograph seems to have a story behind it left to the viewer to invent. Great job!
Hi Lauralea~ Really awesome photos. I can tell you really think about your subjects and take the time to think about the composition and subjects. I enjoyed alot of your photos but overall my favorite is #3.
The b&w does not look like just any b&w filter. It has more of a grainy old time feeling, and I like that.
The composition of this photo really makes the eye movement flow. The bench lines bring your eye straight to the mysterious hand and continue leading the eye to the nicely textured bricks which leads to the little spot of grass.
The hand in the photograph doesn't look tense so it gives me a sense of calmness and relaxation. Maybe at the park? All the different textures in the photograph really make the photo pop. Great job!
I found photo number three to be really interesting. I love that the hand gives a mood to the picture and the lighting of the park behind it. It feels like a peaceful afternoon in the park. I
I like all of your photos! My favorite one was a self-portrait, # 11. The way you captured yourself is quite different from the rest of the self portraits and the blurry effect added character, in my opinion. I like the content of all your photos; a lot of them required me to look for awhile to figure out what exactly it is. Some of them I couldn't figure out at all.
number 1 is sick. this is a solid collection of photos for this assignment. i really enjoy whatever your process was for the b/w. your post stood out to me more than others. number 6 is also very cool. good content with just enough mystery. i think you did a good job on hitting all the marks with this one. you could probably take some sweet self portraits at some of these locations that you posted. good job.
