Hi LauraLea, Great set of photos! You are really good at selective focus, the way you are able to have so much going on in a background but able to draw the viewers eye in to that one item you are really focused on, like in #3,5 and even 6. Your self portraits are also really good and great unique ideas. I am going to pick #1 as favorite this week for a few reasons. One, I collect old medicine bottles so I instantly loved it. The angle is a great different view and creates a lot of dimension among the bottle themselves. When I really look at the picture, I am pretty sure I know the bottles or at least their relative height and the way you shot this changes all of that. Even the slight washed out look adds to the feel of the picture. I really like what you did. Great Job.
The first half of this set are really strong! Lots of interesting content and texture. I really enjoy whatever methods you used to edit these. I vote #1 as your POW even though it has less color than the rest. It grabbed my attention more than any of the others. Overall good stuff. I think you have a good idea of what to shoot and how to compose them.
My favorite photo of yours is #1 because of the unique perspective. I think that it would be less effective if it were just an overhead shot, but the slight angle makes it more interesting. I also like what looks like a dead sunflower as subject matter, while its not the main focus it adds something different from the bottles. Most of your photos have a really soft focus or use of color. I think you got the desaturation and natural light down in many of them where it’s appropriate.
Laurlea- I thoroughly enjoyed your photographs this week. Photo number 1 instantly catches my eye. The curiosity and mysteriousness that it brings is overwhelming for just one photograph. Its awesome! Nice work!
Number 4 is so simple yet has so much to tell. Rainy days can be just as beautiful as sunny days and this picture captures that.
I also enjoyed number 5, the lighting is great
My POW is number 7. I am not sure why but the way that you have captured the sun in the side mirror draws me in. The reflections resemble flower pedals. So unique, great use of the light.
Great job overall, your self portraits are also inspiring and creative.
Lauralea, I love so many of your photos and they are all really great quality. I can tell by looking at your set that you are taking the class seriously rather than just taking photos that are quick and easy. I don’t see any clichés which makes all of your photos more creative and unique. I wish I didn’t have to choose because I love so many of your photos. But #14 is the photo I choose for your POW. With my second choice being #1. In these photos as well as some others (#2, 11..) it appears you know how to pair complementary colors very well. Actually a theme I see is your combination of blues and oranges that runs through many of your photos.
It was so difficult to decide so I went with the photo that kept drawing me back and that was #14. In fact it goes well with #1 I think, with the color scheme and style. I think that the orange tones in your skin (your skin isn’t orange!) The varying peach tones compliment very well with the light bluish solid background. Your lipstick also adds a boldness to the photo and compliments the hidden green tone in the blue background. Overall this photo is very BOLD. I think that is why it sticks out to me so much. It is a quite raw and beautiful photo/self-portrait.
Well done! Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing more of your work.
Lauralea, I love your use of light in these pictures. The way you use sunlight to enhance them is great and even in the picture at night or in the dark the lights in them really add to the composition of the photo. I enjoyed how you were able to take ordinary things and make them into art. We all drive in cars but not many think or have the ability to make a picture from the side mirror look that visually appealing. I find myself seeking out things to take pictures of rather than making art out of what is in front of me, so I applaud you. There is art everywhere.
It was hard for me to pick one as my favorite but I am going to go with number one. I really enjoy the dullness of the colors and could actually imagine a picture of this hanging in my room. I also really liked the birds eye view of looking down into the bottles. Nice work!
6 has my vote for POW, however this was pretty tough because you have a great set of photos here that all have such great color. For me #6 just really jumped and immediately got my attention as soon as i passed by. The contrast of the steel grey color versus the trees/sky in the background came out really cool and adds an interesting aspect to the photo. Also the detail in the suns face adds depth and makes the wind chime look really cool, again what an awesome set you have this week, very well done.
Great photo set. I don't know if there were any filters used or not but the whole vibe of your set invokes a feeling of nostalgia for me. It reminds me of the flashback scenes in tv shows that are a little foggier than the present day ones. My favorite photo is #3. I like that the sunshine is so bright that it takes up a lot of the upper right portion of the photo yet the focus on the grapes allows the photo to maintain its color. Great job in capturing it at such an angle, and still being able to effectively do so.
You have created a beautiful set of photos. My favorite would have to be number 1. I love the juxtaposition along with the monochrome color. The pictures feel like memories in a way. Great use of angles as well. Great job!
