  1. Number 10 is my absolute favorite. Although I know what is, I find myself asking "how was it done?" Which to me is more mysterious than any shaded figure. Number 11 is stunning, and its tone works well, and number 5 is successfully risky. I like it.

  2. Photo 2 is my personal favorite. After going through all your posts this is certainly the one that attracted me most.

I like the feeling that I got when viewing the picture, makes me feel on edge. It forces you to ask where you might be or what the picture is supposed to mean with you standing so close to the edge. The difference in the color of the two pieces of wood interested me as did the squares in the sidewalk. Also have to love the typical Philly style is presented in the picture as a black bag carelessly blows through. The color contrast is appealing, some spots are darker, some lighter and they work well together.

  3. Hello Rachel!

You've got some excellent photographs here. I would say number 6, 8 & 10 are my absolute favorite of the bunch.

The fact that #6 seems to be intentionally blurry (at least that is what I would think) draws me into the frame. It forces me to stop and make sense of everything happening because it isn't very clear (heh).

In #8, I love love love the texture. The contrasting blacks and whites add so much depth to a seemingly flat composition.

Number 10 is wonderful. Probably your best photograph. The background being completely blown out around the cup of tea really softens the edges of the mug. This is a very strong composition.

  4. Number 10 and 12 are my favorite.
I love how this is not a typical reflection photo, and I love the "ghostly" effects that turned out (especially how the legs fade out) ! Creepy :) How did you get that type of reflection? I am assuming the picture is a self portrait?

    1. Hey Jordan! Thanks!
Yes, this is one of my self portraits. I took this picture while in a gallery at first friday. So since I took the picture so quickly the camera wasn't able to focus on everything in the frame (since there's a lot going on). My legs being blurred out is a result of tricking the camera and having it focus on my legs and the brick walk way at the same time.

  5. Hi Rachel!

I really enjoyed looking at your photographs. I like the blurry effect that you used in a few of the pictures. I like that you use the entire frame of the photo and, also, at times you do extreme close-ups of the subject, which makes the viewer have to think for a minute about what it is we are actually looking at.

I like in #1 of yourself, we see your face, but personally I'm not really sure what else I see. I know it is a self-portrait, but it's a mystery of what else is in the photo other than yourself. In photo #4, I like how it is a close up of something metal, but I have no idea what it is. It keeps me interested in what I am looking at.

I'd have to say photo #10 is my favorite. At first glance, I truly was confused. It took me a few seconds to realize that I was looking at a mug with a tea bag in it. I like how you cut out the top of the mug so it looks like we are just looking at liquid with no container.

    Good job!

  7. Hey Rachel! All of your photos made me stop and look. They are a little different and equally interesting but the one I liked the most was #12 – one of your self-portraits. I enjoy your use of reflection when I sew it I thought self-reflection which gives it that much more appeal to me.

The tone you used is excellent, I like the warmth it brings to the photo and I feel that it draws the viewer in closer to you. The composition is pretty well done as well. You have the horizontal ceiling lines, and the street lines that keep our eyes from falling of the top or bottom of the page as well as the combinations of vertical lines (the windows, bodies, lights, posts) that keep our eyes from falling of the edges. There is so much to look at, it never gets boring! I’d also like to add that all of the lines are fluid and aren’t so bold as to make the viewer’s eyes feel trapped in certain spots. It is especially interesting where the legs fade out into the street.

Lastly, I salute you for taking this picture out in public and in the reflection of a window of a public place. This is something I would have been too shy or nervous to do, especially because I am still insecure about taking self-portraits. But also because I find it interesting with all of the people moving around you while you are stopped looking and reflecting upon you.
    Excellent job!

  8. Rachel,

#2 is my favorite (even though we're not really supposed to be using pictures of feet) I think you've avoided the cliche since there are a lot of other interesting dynamics in this photo (multiple textures, use of height/dimension).

  9. I think that you used perspective really well in your photos. I’d have to go with #7 as my favorite. It looks like you took the photo from a car which I think is a little mysterious. What really adds to the photo is the reflection in the body of the car. You also used contrast pretty well in all of your photos, especially #6’s dark tones stand out. That would probably be my second favorite.

  10. Hi! My favorite photo of yours would be #4. The use of lighting in this pic is great! The shadows and the brightness contrast nicely. All of your photos have a great way of capturing content that is known, yet its angles and lighting make it stand out! I like the blurry effect used in some of the photos.

  11. Rachel -

My favorite photo of yours is number 12. I love the creative idea for a self portrait. The reflections in the glass of the things around you are really interesting. I also thought that you had some very interesting angles in your photos.

  12. my favorites are 3 and 4. these are all pretty great though. i think you hit the mark with a diverse amount of content. composition wise you're looking pretty solid too. its interesting because some of these look like they were shot on a film camera. nice self portraits too!

  13. I really enjoyed your photos, it wasn't until I took a second look at number 10 that I was able to figure out what it was. It is extremely abstract and very clever to keep it in that tone rather than make into black-and-white. I like the way you framed it as well. I also really liked number 6 as well. Having it out of focuse almost made me feel as though the girl was rollerblading fast. I like the bridge in the background and how you can not fully see it. Nice job on all of these they are very intresting.
