  1. Ross, you've got some interesting compositions here! Interesting color, subject, framing. Despite this being out first assignment having to do with color, I will say that number 10 is my favorite of the bunch. The black and white effect works perfectly for the subject matter. I love how the stage lights create this silhouette effect effect around the singer, but leaves just enough light spilling over the side of him. It adds dimension to his frame, being about to make out the side of his right leg. Being able to see the directionality of the lights is also a great capture. Sometimes I see photographs of shows with the lighting very blown out eating the subject matter on stage out of the frame.

  2. Ross, I can tell that you went out looking for interesting uses of colors and I like that. I particularly like #10 because of the stage lighting and the silhouette of the performer. You don’t see shows being shot in black and white as much, so that’s pretty cool. As for your other photos, I think that you made sure to take things from different angles instead of head on, which I think is easy to automatically do sometimes, but you showed new perspectives. One critique I would have is that you get very close to objects in many of these shots, so next time, do that for a few maybe but take a step back in some of your compositions and show more in the frame and see what you can do. Nice work!

  3. Hi Ross,
So, I enjoy number one because it seems to serve as a doorway to the entire body of work. Number four and number eight are framed beautifully (I am a stickler for no awkward cropping) and I like your tendency to show the mundane in innovative ways. I am liking what's happening in number ten- the linear forms made by the lights are captivating, and great choice to do it in black and white. I love number six as I am a sucker for split horizons with non-landscapes, but I find myself looking at those plates over and over again- which is ridiculous because they are plates. So, I vote number eight as your POW.

  4. Hi Ross,

My favorites here were 3, 8, and 10 but I'm voting for #3. You actually managed to make movie theater seats look really interesting and I keep going back to it. Nice job!

  5. Ross-
My favorite was #10. I loved the bright colors, while they still had that soft feeling without being over saturated. It makes me wonder what the whole object is- is it a lamp, a window, etc.? It gives off a vintage feel, very cool!

  6. My favorite is 10. You really got the idea of Passion in this one. I just wish it was in color! I think you sought out interesting colors to include in this set and I appreciate that. You notice things that others would pass by. Great job

  7. My pick for POW is #1 of the doorway. I think the contrast between the red and the brick looks really cool and adds a lot to this picture. One suggestion might be to get out and explore while taking your shots, as a lot of these seem to be shot either on campus or in your home. Also maybe with the self portraits doing something a little more creative. Overall the pictures came out good and you have a good eye for capturing colors that really grab attention.

I really enjoy photo number 8, of the plates. Although it is probably not your strongest photo I like the angle you chose to emphasize the plates. Plates are so simple but this photo makes them more complex.
I recommend exploring your imagination more with the self portraits. They seem to not be clear, not sure if you did this on purpose.

POW is number 10. I feel involved in the photo as a viewer, which is always a good sign. The lights are a seductive aspect to this photograph. Well done.

  9. Ross,
My POW for you would have to be #10. I like how the photo made it seem like the viewer was at the location the photo was taken at. I like a lot of your photos because they seem to give a realistic feel about your view of the world. I like how took photos of things and places that many people can relate to.
Great job and keep up the good work!

You have some really interesting pictures here. I love the angles and composition you used and also the use of color. The primary colors used makes these pictures feel like a collection. I choose 8 for the POW because I like the contrast of dark to the brightness of the plates.

  11. Ross,
My POW is number is #10. Although it is not in color, I think the B&W effect works nicely. The beams of light create great lines to move the eye around the photograph. I think if it was in color some of the sharp lines would be lost. The picture is filled with passion, from the singer being down on his knees, to the fans so desperately reaching for him
