ReplyDeleteHi Sarah! First, I want to say – really nice photos! I have a couple favorites (11, 13, and 14) but the one I am voting for of your set is #10. Is that a Cicada shell? Usually I start a comment talking about the technical value but instead I want to start with the pulling out ideas and thoughts that come to mind when I look at this photo. To me, there appears to be symbolism in the hallowed out shell and the liveliness in the background. This photo really makes me think about how we (human beings) often forget or are negligent about nature and natural occurrences that happen day and night. We are so busy with our lives – we often do not take the time to appreciate the world around us. Your photo displays this by bringing the hallow shell to the foreground and at the same time capturing the lights and people who seem to be unaware of something that is right in front of us.
I am not quite sure if you had this intention, it is somewhat specific to how I read the situation but I love that you are able to make me start this thought process of a larger meaning behind your photograph. My compliments go toward your keen eye to capture something that could be easily passed by. It really works that you have objects up close as well as in the distance. The lighting in the night also add to the overall ambiance.
There's a nice variety of content going on with this set which I like. My favorites would be #5 and #12. #5 is cool because it reminds me of colorblocking design and also has that mysterious effect with the open black space. Compositionally this is striking. #12 gets my vote for POW because I think overall it's one of the best photos in the set. It just seems to make sense to me and the colors work well on the asphalt. You did a nice job with the color treatment as most of these are well balanced and not over saturated or anything. Very realistic which I think was an important aspect in this assignment. Good stuff.
ReplyDeleteLooking through your photos, on first glance #14 was definitely my favorite. While not in color, it really carries across one idea or me, but I feel it can be interpreted many ways. I love that we can see three different angles of your face. You angled the mirror just right - it looks like you could be feeling happy on the top half because we can’t see your mouth, but the bottom makes you appear thoughtful and solemn. You did a really nice job with constructing this shot and I can tell you put thought into it. As for color, I think you captured it well throughout, with mostly soft color and some pops of brighter shades. I like #1’s use of color as well because the color is surrounding an area of minimal color almost all the way up to the vanishing point. I think that’s pretty interesting. Nice job with your set!
ReplyDelete1,2,3,8,12
ReplyDeleteNice set you worked on here! I like how you incorporated some B&W photos again, i did the same! I: picked out 5 photos i really enjoyed, they were 1,2,3,8,12. I really like the framing in 1 and how you were able to capture so much in one shot. i like 3 because it just seems so simple, does that make sense? 8 is cool because you found snake skin and with that angle, made a really nice shot. But my favorite and vote for POW is number 12 with the chalk. I love the different colors and specifically how the chalk on the street makes the colors look. So great job!
Nice set! I love the frog pictures and think 10 & 11 are really interesting. I like how the central focus is the frog but then in the background there's people talking and laughing, most likely not noticing that the frog is there. The photo tells a story.
ReplyDeleteHowever, my favorite here is actually #3 because of the framing/composition. It's a simple picture and yet it stands out. It makes me wonder where the stairs are leading.
Sarah-
ReplyDeleteMy favorite of yours were #10 and #11! Awesome nighttime shots. You have an interesting subject, while still capturing the nighttime light, as well as great color tones. They made me really pay attention to see what was in the frame, but still holds that feeling of passion, giving off a feeling like the last night of summer. Great set!
Gosh, it's hard to choose my favorite! I'm definitely stuck between number 14 and number 12. I think number 14 is a great approach to the self portrait. You can tell that you obviously took the time to frame this photo. I really like number 12 because it reminds of childhood. It looks like the chalk is exploding and that is aesthetically pleasing to me. Overall, I'd say 14 is the best because of the time you probably put in to frame this photo.
ReplyDeleteGood job
14 has my vote for POW i think its a really cool concept that you used. While capturing both eyes but from different perspectives with the reflection of the mirror added a really cool effect that i really enjoyed. I often times find it hard to shoot really cool self portraits but i think this is one of my favorites so far. Another thing that i really enjoy is the variety that you have in your pictures, not all the same. Also the lines are clear and nothings over saturated which makes the pictures really well done, this is a great set of photos.
ReplyDeleteWow. Good job Sarah. I am very impressed with you photos of nature and animals. Not only were the nature shots awesome, I'm really intrigued with your self-portrait in #14. It's cool how you took a picture of yourself in the mirror rather straight on. My POW of your photos would have to be #6. It was cool, whatever it is, because I don't know what it is I am looking at. I think it is a piece of broken concrete, but I am not sure. Great job!
ReplyDeleteSarah,
ReplyDeleteYour photos are very passionate and colorful, you nailed this assignment. Overall, my favorite is definitely #10. The warmth of this photo creates the passion from the start. Then as I move through the picture my eyes meet the lights on the ride side of the picture and I am drawn in to what's back there. The beam of light above the bug is really intriguing and leads your eyes through the photograph (great composition). The people in the background to the right is what makes the photo so passionate for me. They create a good welcoming vibe. Really good job!

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed looking at your set of photos. I especially loved the nature shots. Your self portrait was also really interesting. I really liked the way it was not a straight on shot, and that you got creative with the mirror. My POW for you would be picture number 3. The light reflecting at the top of the stairs was really interesting to me. Awesome job!
