Hi Emily, Again, your entire set is saturated with your peculiar style! I congratulate you on finding your niche so quickly. I’m always interested in what you will bring to the table. One thing I wish wasn’t so strong is the over-sharpening of many of your photos. I think it takes away from their quality and that they would look as good without it. The photo of yours that stood out the most to me was #13. It really captured exactly what this memory/vintage was going for. It reminds me of when my boyfriend is talking and laughing and I am just watching him and thinking about the moment and trying to embrace the beauty of the moment. This photo does exactly that. One of the blurry overlays that really works toward making this feel as though it was a memory. I love that you continued to use long exposure and your effects in this photo look great. Good job!
Emily, once again, great job! These photographs are wonderful. It appears you are quite fond of some HDR settings. I love a lot of the textures you were experimenting with, especially in numbers 4, 5 & 17. Numbers 13 & 15 are definitely my favorites of the bunch. Although I will be hoppin on the #13 train and voting for that as your POW. The long exposure in #13 takes me back to times when you are just hanging around with your friends, laughing and talking and just having a genuinely good ol' time. It's almost as if the long exposure pushing you into a memory, rather than a static photograph with just the subject sitting there. You were capturing the motion almost as if it were playing out in a video, replaying for the viewers. Great job!
Emily, I agree with Brooke you have a peculiar style but I enjoy it, its really special and you should be happy with it. You've added a mysterious feel to the vintage/memory. Great job of stepping outside the box on the self-portraits, something I can't quiet grasp how to do. Number 17 really draws me in and makes me feel as if I am in the photo (in the old days). Somehow the men you have captured almost look like they are antique, there choice of clothing really creates a vintage feel as well as the building and signs about trout fishing, apples, etc. Number 16, nice way of incorporating the other techniques that we have used in your set this week. Number 6 is much like some of the classmates photographs with the emphasis on the lighting. I like the angle you chose, it makes me feel like the photographer is in the vintage scene, but could step through the broken wall and into a "different" world. Number 4 reminds me of the moon, clearly it is not, but I like that it looks like an antique full moon. My POW is number 5 - mainly because I don't have a clue what it is. I like how you have captured something so simple and made it so much more. I agree also with Lauralea, with the strength you have added to your set through others enjoying life. You've really incorporated the memory theme within your set by using photographs of your boyfriend. I can put myself in your place and actually feel what you guys might be feeling, seems like you've really added importance to your photographs as well. Lovely set of photographs!!
Emily, your photos are very good at giving off a certain feeling! Some of them make you feel a bit intimidated, especially the angle and shadowy-ness of 15. You’ve used a lot of great textures as well, which definitely makes things feel like they’ve been there for a while and are decaying. The light and way you process your photos makes them feel very sharp and you really don’t get the feeling that any of these have come from an iPhone, which is definitely the point and I think you’ve mastered this. Nice job!
Oh yeah and #16 is my favorite! I really just can't wrap my brain around whether it's a mirrored image and the way it's flipped on its side just makes it that much more mysterious.
Your photography style is fantastic! Very intense. I wonder what kind of apps you're using to create these effects? It's hard to pick a favorite, but I'm going to vote for #6. I'm not sure what I'm looking at, but it seems really cool.
Great job! Your style is really interesting and definitely unique. I love that I am wondering what exactly I am looking at in a few of them. My POW is 12. I love how I can see your reflection in the camera lens - really cool idea.
Hi Emily, The technique that you use when shooting is really interesting. I like how even after looking at a photo for a few minutes, I still am unsure as to what it is I am looking. That being said, my POW for you is photo #12. I love how you use the reflection and are also taking it upside down. Very creative.
8 was super cool, I'm always really impressed when people have great self portraits because I think that aspect is so hard. Overall the set in its entirety was really well done making it hard to choose just 1. You have a really cool and unique style that makes your work stand out, very well done!
Emily, Your portfolio does a great job of displaying your style of photography. I’ve really enjoyed seeing your set of photographs throughout this semester! My POY goes to photo 9 in chapter ‘Grunge Enhanced’. The photo from afar looks like it could be a graphic design poster and since I am a creative track, Advertising major I love this photograph very much. The editing you did to it is really beautiful; I love the light at the top giving off a soft light to the rest of the picture. The vase of flowers is so simple and I really enjoy that. Overall, awesome photographs this semester!
