  1. Sarah,
This wasn’t a hard choice for me. I am so intrigued by #18! Definitely the photo I believe should be your POW. Although there isn’t as much filter or seemingly obvious alterations used to make this look like a memory, it still does look like one. I think the overall cool color scheme works to that advantage. I also like how everything is mostly blurry other than your eyes and your cheek, it really brings the viewer into focus. When my eyes do start to veer off to the edges of the photo there is still interesting aspects that bring me back in. Great composition here! It is easy to see you put a lot of effort and creativity into your self-portraits but some others that peaked my interest were #10, #15 and #16.
    Good Job!

  2. Hi Sarah! I would definitely have to agree with Brooke that #18 is intriguing. Actually, both 17 & 18. Really well done self portraits! Both minimal color in their own rights, one being black and white and one consisting of very washed out tones, almost as if it were an aged film photo. Something that would have really "aged" up the photo would have perhaps been a subtle texture overlay. The blur effects add to the subject consisting of mainly your eyes in each photograph, a point where any person viewing these photographs would instantly be drawn to. In terms of it eliciting a memory, I imagine this as some married couple or a child taking a picture of their loved one while they are getting ready to go out. It reminds me of when I was little and I would sit and watch my mom put on her make-up as she sat on the floor in front of the mirror. That being said, my vote is also for #18.
    Wonderful job!

  3. Sarah, I agree with brooke - Number 18 is great, such a unique self portrait that also fits the topic of vintage/mystery without using crazy filters. Love the curlers :) Number 16 is absolutely brilliant, such a great way to use your shadow to give detail about whats really being captured in this photo. I am going to go with this for your POW. Numbers 13 and 14 make me want to travel to wherever this old cabin is, the leaves and plants surrounding make it look so inviting. I took a shot similar to number 9 and 10 - really cool, the bottles are so unique and really gives age to this photograph. Number 15 also really captures my eye, I love how you have emphasized the leaf so much, everyone is incorporating fall so much within their shots. Great work!

  4. So many of these are good that it’s hard for me to pick a favorite. However I think I’d also have to go with 18. It looks like it could be in a magazine or catalog for makeup. The way that you focus on the eyes is really great. In many of these, especially 5, 13 and 14 I get a “civil war-era” feeling. I like 13 because it shows so much of the space and kind of makes you feel like you’re the only one there. Nice job.

  5. Photo # 4 is absolutely beautiful! The tree and its contrast with the sky and the colors of the grass in the foreground work so well together. I get the sense of vintage here and would love to hear about whatever memory this photo evoked. I'd vote # 4 as POW. I also really liked # 12. Great use of the panoramic mode and again, the sky is gorgeous in this photo.

  6. Sarah,

Really interesting set of photographs. It's hard for me to pick a favorite. The historical photographs at the beginning of the set are very professional looking and well framed. My favorite is #10- I think the array of content, the angle which this was taken, and the way the camera is focused is very interesting. Nice job!

  7. Sarah -

Good work! I love all of your historical looking photographs because they remind me of where I grew up. 15 is my POW. I love the faded out looking color contrasting with the red leaf and also this picture has really nice composition.

  8. Hi Sarah,

I really enjoyed looking at your photos this week. I love the vintage filters you applied to most of your photos. It really gives it the old feel I think you were going for. My POW for you would be photo #8. I pass the Divine Lorraine almost everyday to get home. The way the framed the shot and angled the building almost makes it look like a postcard. Good job!

  9. These are awesome and I really love how you incorporated panoramas into this set. I enjoyed the brightness of these photos and the content in which you decided to shoot. The hotel sign on top of the building is great. I also really enjoyed the pictures of the bottles. Your self portraits are magnificent and very intriguing! I would have to say that 15 is my favorite. I like that you took the picture while partially in the grass and the desaturation on it is great. I also love the shot of the shadow cast by the high heal and leg. I had to look at it for a minute before I could really tell what I was looking at. I also got a strong lonely and sad feeling from the picture of the bench. The coloring and angle of the picture just left me looking at it and wondering. Great job, I really loved looking at all of these.

  10. 4 was my favorite, it was captivating. The picture is so well done and the color is just amazing. Overall the set was equally as good that just happened to be my favorite. Also the cannons remind me of the old wars fought which really hits the nail on the head in terms of the assignment.
