  1. Hi Ross, you got a nice set here! I like the range of color and b&w throughout. My vote for your POW is #15. First off, it is obviously very noir. It portrays a dark mood, cynical. If it were in color, I'd imagine something out of the show Twin Peaks, bright red walls and all. I love that you were able to capture the lamp's light trail, without it spilling out over the shadowed parts of the wall. That is what creates the entire mood of this photograph, without that effect, I don't think I would have liked it nearly as much. - although some of the spots that are shadowed in complete black would have fared well with *some* light allowing some detail to peak through. Good job!

  2. Ross,
My three favorites here are 4, 6, and 8. I like the photo of the school (6) and how it looks as though it has been closed down or abandoned. I don’t know if that is the case but it looks as though you are standing in the playground lot of an abandoned school. It brings about memory but also a sense of mystery. The tint here is one that I am noticing I am drawn to in everyone’s photos. I think it just gives the photos a completely different feel that they would lack without the greenish tint.
The photo I am voting for your POW is #8. I love this photo! The score board, the walls, and windows all give of a very vintage feeling. The vintage atmosphere makes me imagine people wearing those gym shorts from the 70’s. I feel like if we could see more of the gym that the scene would be one from the 70’s. I like this photo because it is different from the rest. It uses vintage more so than memory but still connects the two.
    Good work!

  3. Ross - Great use of exploring alternative capturing techniques in the self portrait. I really enjoy photo 14 for the black/white aspect and your ability to create emphasis on the light in the dark. It looks great, you have done a really great job on this. Numbers 11 and 9 also capture my attention, the angle you chose to capture this shot really fits in with the vintage/memory topic. Number 4 is also one of my favorites, something so simple creates such a vintage scene by just propping the door open and adding a filter. My POW is number 14, I really like the action shot and the way that you have incorporated this into your set. I think this falls more into the category of memory. Nice work!

  5. Hey Ross, cool set of photos this week. You really shot a wide variety of subjects which is nice to see. You also explored with a lot of different angles which makes all of these photos even more interesting.

Two of my favorites are 6 & 9. I feel like each of these photographs
6 & 9. Each of them each have their old time feel. #6 espeically feels like a memory/vintage to me. The building looks really runned down and worn in, especially the window style and air conditioner coming out the window. The toning of the image is spot of for a vintage feel. My pow goes to 6!

  6. Ross, I think the best part of your set is the angles that you used because I feel like you got pretty creative with some of your shots and made your subjects more interesting that way. The desaturation definitely makes everything feel more vintage. My favorite is definitely #6. I like that you cut off the shape that drawn on the concrete, it makes your eye follow it off the page and wonder what’s next to the building or if the building keeps going.

  7. Ross- My favorites are #4 and #10! #4 gives me the feeling of exploring an old house as a curious kid. I also like how the door is mysteriously staying open by itself. #10 makes me feel like I should be dressed up in hoity toity clothes drinking champagne as the people around me are gambling on the horses! It looks like something out of an old movie. Plus, it's pretty cool that you got to experience that! I would pick #4 as your POW, as it gives off a more vintage theme.

  8. Ross -

Great job! Your photos really go well with the theme for the critique this week. Some of the pictures remind me of my old highschool. 2, 4, and 6 are my favorites. My POW would be 6 because of how haunted it feels to me.

  9. I really liked how you framed your photos. You made simple things very interesting. I really enjoyed number two and the angle you decided to take the picture at. I think my favorite from this set would have to be number four. It just gives me the vibe of old and the coloring of it makes it feel vintage, you did a really nice job on framing it as well. Way to go this week, keep it up!
