Brooke, I am loving this set of photos! I find it hard to choose just one as my favorite. Likes, 1, 2, 3, 15 & 18. All great! But alas, I've narrowed it down to #3. I don't know what it is... but I am drawn to anything that reminds me strictly of the fall - probably because it is my favorite time of the year. It's all about the color and the representation of the cold weather. How an image can just make you *feel* the cold air, even when you are in the warmth of a house.
With number 3, I was drawn to the range of focus and how even though everything is out of focus, you can still understand what the image is - what the subject is. The purple/blue of the sky, the orange of the leaves and the yellow of the car's headlights - very complementary. It reminds of when I was younger and would be playing outside in the street and in the leaves with the neighborhood kids, even though it would get so cold when the sun went down. How did I get that image, I don't know. But, that's where I went immediately lol.
Hi Brooke! Amazing as always. I feel like the majority of your shots captured the memory or vintage feel that we were aiming for. They all seem to have a way to spark a hint of a past memory or idea of a place from the past. I think you nailed the coloring on the candy corn, it is such a simple picture but you made the color definitely correct to make it look like the picture is 30 years old. My favorite picture by far is number one. In the picture there is so much emotion that I know so well. Even simple things like the way your hand is placed over your face as though you are silencing a cry or the way your body is curled up into a semi fetal position. This simple shot brings out so much emotion and feelings, I keep looking at it yet feel like I shouldn't be, like i am seeing someone at a very vulnerable time. I think you really captured what Berkowitz was talking about. Great Job!
Brooke- Instantly I was fascinated by your first shot. The creativity of this self portrait is great. The photo made me wonder where your blankets might be, is it cold, the body position emphasizes so much with this photo. It turns the simple black and white photograph into detail and emotion. Your photo's overall show a great deal of vintage/memory. 16 is also a self portrait, great use of the shutter speed - is that what you used? I really enjoy the emphasized shadows of number 11, you have captured the light perfect for this photograph. Then with number 8, taking something so simple as a window screen and making it much much more. Number 7 seems like it could fit into my photographs, I always love nature and accidentally find myself taking many more pictures of nature than necessary. My POW is photograph 16, I love that you have incorporated nature and yourself.
Hi Brooke! I feel like your photos are getting better each critique! This set spoke to me in so many ways. The vintage feel you gave each photo really shines through. Some of my favorites were 1,2,4, and 6. They were all beautifully shot and sparked a special memory for me.
4 reminds me of being a little kid, waking up early and walking down the stairs. The shine beaming through is really nice and creates a pretty color on the wall. The pow goes to #1. This self portrait is really powerful and makes me wonder what memories are sparking this photo. The lighting is great. I enjoy the darker feel around the edges and it being brightest on you. Overall, great set of photos Brooke!
Another job well done here brooke! How am i supposed to choose just one for POW. To start my three favorites are 1,5 and 10. I think i'll have to choose number 10 because i feel that i fits in well with vintage and memory. Nothing says memory for me more than a school. we all spent so much time in one, thats why went to my old schools for my most of my photo set! I feel like your photo would be a shot i would see in my dads old yearbook from the 70's haha! so nice job!!
You did an amazing job with this set. You have captured a sense of nostalgia- this set seems very personal. I was also intrigued by #1, the self portrait. That pose could so easily be perceived as either comfortable or depressing (is she sleeping or in the middle of grieving a loss?) I'm voting your POW as #15. I love the way the lighting fades the edge of the photograph and leaves you with an old-looking photograph of a couple meeting for coffee.
Nice photo set! The entire set has a nice vintage feel that seems as though any of the photos could be the opening of a movie set "back in the day". My favorite that I am voting as POW is your self portrait #16. I would love to know the recipe behind this shot. The contrast between you and the trees as well as dark and light are amazing. I also like #18, made me feel a piece of childhood looking at the old time candy. Great job!
Brooke- You have a BEAUTIFUL set of photos! They all capture that "vintage" theme that we had to capture. But my favorite and pick for your POW would be #12. It feels like an old photo that would be in a photo album. It also makes me think that it's the kind of photo that someone could look at and remember exactly how that day went and how in love they were. It sparks that warm memory feeling. Awesome job!
I absolutely love your pictures for this critique. You did an amazing job at capturing the theme. Photo 16 is really catching my eye in particular and I would love to know how you were able to create that effect. My pick for POW was a tough one, but I am going with photo 3. It reminds me of summer nights hiking in the woods by my house.
As always, your pictures are great. I fell like some of your content was spot on for vintage and memory topic. The picture over the shoulder of the person looking at the photo album really caught my eye. I also love everything about your first photo it is framed so well and the lighting really adds to the image. The color of the photos and softness of them also add to the vintage feel. Awesome job I really loved all of them but I think my favorite are one and eleven.
16 is my favorite and really cool. Its like your one with nature the way that your image is reflected in as well. I admire your work, you consistently create great sets with all sorts of awesome color concepts, framing, and just variety in general. Also the self portraits you create are just awesome. Keep up the great work.

ReplyDeleteBrooke,
ReplyDeleteThis photo-set captured my attention form beginning to end. I think the first photo is my favorite. It is just so intriguing.
I also love #13. The intimate moment you captured between two strangers really adds to the memory theme. Great job!
Brooke- You have a BEAUTIFUL set of photos! They all capture that "vintage" theme that we had to capture.
