Hi Lauralea, As always, I love your set! Your style is distinct yet you always bring more to the table and are able to expand it nicely over a variety of subject matter. I liked so many of your photos it was hard to choose just one! Some of my favorites are 2, 4, 5 (We had a similar idea with the steps!), 9, and 17. What I like about #2 is the warmth that radiates from these candles. It evokes good, calming, and intimate memories. I enjoy how the entire photo is over all warm colors – almost monochromatic. Because of this I feel like I could put my hands around this jar and warm them up. The angle of #4 works well with the dead leaves to give off a memory of the fall season. The reason I like #5 is the way you capture the how much time these steps have endured. You can see the indentations and fraying of the carpet that say, “These stairs have seen it all!” You are conveying memory but leaving some to our imagination. I try to look at these photos and think, “If I didn’t know the topic would I still get a feeling of memory or vintage was conveyed?” … I think #9 would most definitely give off that feeling without me having a hint. That is why I think #9 is your POW. It reels in my attention with the various things in the photo and varying foreground and background. Also, the color (which I believe is a subtle greenish tint) works well at helping this image feel like a memory. It’s almost as if I was once sitting in this backyard among these leaves.
HI Lauralea, I would have to agree with everything Brooke said, you always seem to really get the sets correct in such a great way. I am really able to see the theme in most of them easily. Number 4,9 and 15 all really bring out a sense of memory in myself. You could almost "feel" fall in your pictures. Number 9 reminds me of walking home from school as a kid and crunching leaves along the way. 4 reminds be of being outside on my patio in the crisp air maybe for a bonfire or something. I am going to go for 15 as my POW. The colors are done so beautifully it really does remind me of some hiking I have done during this time of the year. The lay out of the path and the way you shot it makes me eager to move forward in the picture and continue the hike. :-) Good Job.
Lauralea, I will start with number 3 ! Love the techniques you used to emphasize the lady bug. I just love lady bugs. You have such a strong set this week, congrats! I am lost on which ones to comment on because I would like to tell you how much I enjoy all of them to be honest. Your self portraits are so creative, I love the wet hair look it shows natural beauty. I will agree with Sarah on the "feeling fall" especially on number 15 - the colors are so vibrant I feel as if I am on that path with you admiring the bright leaves that everyone loves about the seasons changing. My POW is number 16, I am really enjoying everyone's incorporation of games that we don't often play much anymore as we are growing up. It might be because I miss that about life, I feel like were all in the same place while in school and if we could just get away from it for a moment each day we would be much happier and content. The basketball net is alone and where you captured it from makes it seem so inviting but alone at the same time. Really great use of technique throughout your entire set. You've nailed vintage/mystery on the dot! Nice work as always.
Laurelea, I think you use some interesting perspective in your shots. I like the way that you placed 11 and 12 next to each other to show similar vanishing points. I think I’d have to go with 11 as my favorite. I just like the tones that you used and how dark everything is. You made it look so spooky and I’m sure that’s not how the actual bowling alley looked, but you made it believable. 12 also has that central vanishing point and I like the cool tones in this one. 16 is another I like because of the hazy filter, but I especially like the tree to the right because it gives added dimension and makes you feel like you’re watching someone who doesn't know you're there (even though no one's there, if that makes sense!)
This seems like it was a very emotionally driven set. It's hard to pick a favorite, but I'm voting your POW as #1. There is something hauntingly sad about this photograph brought out by the lighting & faded black&white.
Hey Lauralea- Your set of photographs definitely evokes a feeling of nostalgia. Number one has a beautifully soft quality and reminds me of this still life in high school...wow! Number 2 has a fascinatingly ominous warm glow that flows into numbers 4 and 15. I agree with Sarah that I can feel Fall in these photos. Numbers 17 and 18 are such unique self portraits. They are so different yet they give off the same dark and vintage tone. Number 18 has to be my favorite. I love the grey tones and ultra soft quality. Are we looking at you through glass? Number 18 for pow! Nice work!
Cool photo set! Great vintage vibe from each of them. My favorite is #15. I like the vintage feel as well as the use of extended seeing from our last topic. It invoked the feeling "a walk down memory lane". I really like the colors in it that probably existed before any filter or edits were done, the edits just add to the vintage/memory feel. Great work!
Hi Lauralea! Really awesome set this time around. You have a very distinct style, yet a wide variety of subjects. I get the feeling this topic really spoke to you because the images evoke lots of emotions for me. Some of my favorites are; 5, 9, 11, 15, 16, and 17. As you can tell it was really hard for me to pick a favorite because they are really all great.
My POW is going to have to go to 15. Although many people have photographed fall foliage (I did so myself) this specific photograph evokes more memories for me. I grew up in a little town surrounded by beautiful forestry so this image really reminds me of growing up and playing in the woods. Really beautiful photograph. Awesome job overall!
Your photos this week are absolutely beautiful!! You did an amazing job this week. You have a really nice style. It is really difficult for me to pick my favorite. My POW is number 4. I really like the composition of this picture. Runner up for me is 17 - your self portrait because it is really different and eye catching and I love the black and white.
First of all, let me start off with simply, WOW. Your photos are spectacular and I love them. I really like the locations you shot at and the way you decided to shoot them. My POW for you would have to be photo #8. I had to do a double take and then I realized it was a really cool picture of knives. Good job!
4 is my personal favorite from the set although there was a lot of quality shots. I'm a sucker for the extended sight something in focus but you see off in the distance behind it. You capture a lot of really great colors and do a great job with framing, I really enjoyed this set of photos!
